Hong Kong Ballet to perform Giselle

Nine performances of Giselle by Hong Kong Ballet will take place at Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Over two weekends in May and June, Hong Kong Ballet is set to close its 2024/25 season in grand style with a nine-performance of Giselle, a classic tale of love, betrayal, and deception.

Giselle, an innocent peasant girl, falls in love with a handsome villager named Albrecht, but when she learns he’s really a nobleman with a fiancée, she goes mad and dies. A supernatural drama ensues, giving audiences the ballet’s mystical “ballet blanc”, where ghostly spirits wreak vengeance on Albrecht, only for Giselle to protect him from beyond the grave.

To take the tale of Giselle to dazzling new heights, Webre has teamed up with South African ballet artist (and Julliard faculty member) Charla Genn and former principal dancer of The Royal Ballet Viviana Durante to breathe new life into this transcendent tale and deliver performances that are sure to be at once authentic and exquisite.

Further elevating the performances are lush, meticulous 19 th century sets and costumes, and Adolphe Adam’s timeless, ethereal score, performed live by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. There’s little doubt audiences will be left spellbound.

Giselle will be performed from May 30 to June 8 at Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui. Tickets cost from HK$180 and are available from URBTIX.
