InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is to open this summer - the hotel is ideally placed for cruises

Vietnam’s Halong Bay is set to welcome a new international hotel with the announcement that InterContinental Halong Bay Resort will be opening this summer.

The hotel is two hours from Hanoi International Airport and positions itself as a pre- and post-cruise destination for visitors to the region's famous Ha Long Bay.

Ha Long Bay is a perennially popular cruise destination with tourists from around the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it takes its name from Vietnamese legend, with Ha Long meaning ‘the descending dragon’. According to myth, a mother dragon and her children soared across the sky releasing jewels and emeralds into the sea which are said to have shaped the towering limestone karsts that make the area so popular today.

The vast new property offers rooms and suites as well as 60 residences and 41 private villas and is located at the gateway to Ha Long City in the Ha Long Marina Urban Area.

It takes its design cues from the local area, with the lobby inspired by Vietnam’s traditional bamboo basket boats and rooms featuring turquoise blue upholstery and textures and hues that replicate rippling water and iridescent pearls.

Facilities at InterContinental Halong Bay Resort include six dining spaces. Signature restaurants include Roku & Sky Bar on the hotel’s rooftop offering Japanese cuisine, handcrafted cocktails and a sake library, and Yulong Mansion, a two-storey venue serving modern Cantonese cuisine.

There will also be a spa and ‘recreational programming’, such as beach volleyball and archery, a Planet Trekkers kids’ club, a Game Room with cinema and three outdoor pools.

Bookings are now open online.
