Marriott reopens its Maldives' resorts

The family-friendly Sheraton Maldives is back open on October 1.

Marriott hotels in the Maldives will be reopening from next month.

On October 1, the international hotel group will be welcoming guests back to The St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, W Maldives, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa and JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa.

And The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo will be hot on their heels, with a reopening scheduled for November 1.

The brand operates a ‘one-island-one-resort’ concept which sits well with the ‘new normal’ socially-distanced, secluded holiday requirements. Rivero Delgado, area vice president Singapore, Malaysia, Maldives at Marriott International, said the hospitality group had been working “hand-in-hand” with local authorities for a safe reopening.

“The island paradise remains a beloved and inspired destination for many and with the reopening of our five resorts we look forward to bringing those dreams to life as travel gradually resumes,” he said.

“The wellbeing of guests is of paramount importance and we have the highest standards of cleanliness as well as hygiene protocols in place to ensure peace of mind.”

All five resorts have had to comply with global and local health and safety standards as well as Marriott’s own protocols, which have been created by the Marriott Global Cleanliness Council.

In hotel rooms, all surfaces are cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectants and rooms are supplied with disinfecting wipes for guests’ personal use. Signs in hotel lobbies remind guests to maintain social distancing and lay-outs have been rearranged to allow for more personal space.

The Maldives reopened to commercial international flights in August. Initially there were no entry requirements placed on overseas arrivals but with rising infections in August, as of September 10 guests have had to produce a negative PCR medical certificate.

The five-star family-friendly Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is opening with an ‘Exploring Paradise Package’, including a four-night stay with daily breakfast lunch and dinner, a sandbank picnic with barbecue lunch, a Family Spa Day with a 50-minute couple spa treatment and child-friendly activities, coral painting, dolphin cruise and round-trip transfer by speedboat with the international airport. Guests can also take advantage of a 24-hour Villa Host.

Marriott Bonvoy members who book direct or via the Marriott Bonvoy app before December 31, 2020, can enjoy up to 20% discount on rooms and suites for stays until June 30, 2021.
