Raffles hotel to open in Shanghai - the heritage Peace Hotel is a cherished landmark in Shanghai

Accor, the international hospitality group, has announced a glamorous Raffles hotel is planned for Shanghai.

The new property will see the city’s heritage Peace Hotel redeveloped by Accor to become Raffles Peace Hotel Shanghai.

The Peace Hotel is one of Shanghai’s most notable landmarks. The art deco building was constructed in 1929 by Sir Victor Sassoon as the Cathay hotel and it became part of the Jinjiang Group in 1984. In 2010 it was rebranded as part of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

Accor’s Raffles brand is well-established in China with properties in Macau, Shenzhen and Hainan, and across Asia in Singapore, Dubai, Doha, Maldives, Phnom Penh and Bali. A second Singapore property, Raffles Sentosa Singapore, opened earlier this year. The new Raffles Peace Hotel Shanghai is slated to open in 2027.

“As a century-old cultural landmark in Shanghai, the new Peace Hotel will not only blend history and modernity but also provide a fresh way to share the story of Shanghai with global guests,” said Dong Qing, general manager of Shanghai Peace Hotel. “We look forward to revitalising this historic building that carries the memories of the city. Guests will not only experience classic Shanghai style but also enjoy the prestige of international luxury hospitality.”

The new Raffles Peace Hotel Shanghai is slated to open in 2027 and will be the first Raffles property to open in Shanghai.
