Tee-time in the Seychelles

Playing golf in Seychelles

Playing in paradise on Praslin Island in the Seychelles.

Beautiful Praslin Island in the Seychelles has been in the spotlight recently, hosting the MCB Golf Tour Championship Seychelles.

Teeing off on the country’s second largest island late last year were celebrities and seasoned golfers, playing to raise awareness for charities close to their hearts.

After two days playing 36 holes, retired Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Bonner took the title for Ireland, winning GBP25,000 for Amyloidosis Research Fund.

In second place, Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill took home GBP15,000 which he donated to the HALOW project, a charity that supports young people with learning disabilities.

And South African Cricketer Barry Richard won third place, donating GBP12,000 to the Ingrid Diesel Scholarship for Girls.

During their stay in Seychelles, a number of celebrities also participated in community events on the islands of Mahé and Praslin. Former footballers Robbie Fowler, Roberto Di Matteo, Packie Bonner and Gianfranco Zola joined a football clinic at the Amitié Stadium in Praslin with children from clubs in Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. The youngsters had the chance to take part in a draw to win one of 12 jerseys signed by the four footballing celebrities.

The side events were arranged by the main partners of the MCB Tour Championship Seychelles event, including MCB Seychelles, Constance Hotels and Tourism Seychelles, in collaboration with Seychelles Football Federation, National Sports Council and the Autism Association of Seychelles.
