The world’s biggest rugby party is back! Hong Kong Sevens is one of Asia’s most popular sporting events and the jewel in the crown of Hong Kong’s busy sporting calendar. This year it celebrates its 50th anniversary

Hong Kong Sevens 2026 - the event is back at Kai Tak Stadium


The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens returns this week, this year celerbatring a half century as the city's biggest sporting attraction. Hong Kong Sevens first kicked off in 1976 with just 12 teams playing in front of a crowd of 3,000 and has grown today to a three-day tournament featuring 30 teams from all over the world. This year Hong Kong Sevens will take place for the second year running at Kai Tak Stadium at Kai Tak Sports Park. Along with sponsors HSBC and Cathay Pacific, this year also sees Marriott Bonvoy return with a renewed partnership with Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) to serve as an official partner of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2026. It last partnered with the event in 2019.


Who’s playing

This year 30 teams will be taking part in the tournament, including 12 men’s and 12 women’s sides across the HSBC SVNS World Championship. An additional three men’s and three women’s teams will compete in the Melrose Claymores invitational tournaments. Top teams including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Fiji, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and the US will all be taking to the pitch. 


Food and entertainment

Aside from the action on the pitch, Vengaboys will be headlining Hong Kong Sevens this year and will be playing live from 2.30pm on Saturday April 18. As well, DJ Hanna will be entertaining the crowds from 6.45pm on Saturday. Australian band Hindley Street Country Club will be performing on Sunday from 4.45pm, and K-pop band Primrose and Korean singer Gwyn Dorado will be turning up the volume on Friday.


In terms of eats, this year Shake Shack will be serving tasty favourites including ShackBurgers, flat-top dogs and drinks. Head over to the pop-up booth at the Fan Village to refuel between matches. The stadium also offers multiple bars and dining outlets.


Take a turn to the Fan Village (free entry to all ticket holders) for child-friendly activities like face painting, fancy dress, games, bouncy castles, live music, big screens and more.


Neighbouring events

Dorsett Kai Tak will be hosting its 'Wine & Dine Village' for the second time. Located in the hotel courtyard and just minutes from the stadium, the alfresco village has a lively line-up of food, drinks and entertainment planned. A mix of pop-ups will include Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robuchon, Red Bull, El Machho, Prostit Bar & Restaurant, Morley Gastro Pub, Eat Good Spain, Diverxu, Moon Xiang Nong and Siete Ocho & Jin Bo Law. Enjoy live DJ sets, K-Pop dance challenges, face painting and a photo booth. The event is open on all three days of the Sevens tournament from noon to 11pm, G/F Dorsett Kai Tak, 43 Shing Kai Road, Kai Tak.


Where

The event will be held for the second year at the 50,000 seater Kai Tak Stadium. The new venue offers more than 30 food and drink outlets as well as one of Asia’s longest bars. There’s also a fully retractable roof and in-stadium cooling - perfect for this unpredictable time of year in Hong Kong. Two MTR stops are equidistant from the stadium - disembark at either Kai Tak or Sung Wong Toi stations.


When

This year’s event runs from Friday April 17 to Sunday April 19 featuring 30 teams, 72 games and more than 100,000 attendees. The action kicks off at 7.30am on April 17 with a series of mini teams showcasing local rugby.


Ticketing details

A three-day pass for children (aged under 12 years) costs $1,100, a three-day adult pass is $2,250. One-day tickets and The Pavilion Pass Upgrade are also available. Head to hksevens.com.
