Pub grub pleasers at The Diplomat Cafe

The Diplomat Cafe opened in Hong Kong today (July 15), offering all-day pub grub and cocktails to-go.

The opening of the H Code venue coincides with the reintroduction of social distancing measures in the city, including mandatory closure of all restaurants at 6pm each evening. The new space will therefore be opening with reduced operating hours from midday to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

The cafe's namesake, The Diplomat, opened earlier this year as a speakeasy-style cocktail bar, the brainchild of mixologist John Nugent.

Cafe diners can expect brasserie-style snacks and cocktails, with an additional ‘cocktails to-go’ take-home service.

The ‘refined pub grub menu’ includes snacks and hot dishes that are available for dine-in and takeaway. Taste-bud tempters include The Diplomat Burger and the crispy-crackling suckling pig with cheddar cheese, mustard and arugula leaves. And if you’re looking for comfort-food (aren’t we all at this time?) the truffled mac & cheese should hit the spot.

Beat the heat with small-batch produced wines and vintage liquors. Cocktails can be served at the bar or in individual wax-sealed bottles for takeaway.
