All arrivals will need to complete the new Thailand Digital Arrival Card
If you’re jetting off to Thailand, it’s important to note that the country has introduced new arrival requirements for foreign visitors that kick-in later this week.
From Thursday May 1, visitors will need a new digital arrival card which will replace the paper TM6 form. The new card aims to streamline entry procedures into the country. The card is not a visa and all overseas visitors will need to complete the digital card before their arrival.
The new Thai Digital Arrival Card, known as the TDAC, applies to all foreign travellers to the country, whether arriving by air, land or sea. The TDAC is available online and must be completed within three days (72 hours) prior to arrival.
Applying for a TDAC is free-of-charge and the form can be accessed online at the Thai Immigration Bureau website. Applicants will need to provide passport details, personal information such as name, date of birth and nationality, flight number and accommodation details. A health declaration must also be made.
Once the TDAC is completed, the Immigration Bureau will forward a confirmation email with a QR code that should be kept available to show immigration officials on arrival, either in printed or digital format.
Thailand welcomes around 35 million visitors annually. It’s hoped the new system will streamline the arrival process with fewer queues at immigration. Thailand currently lists 93 countries and territories that are able to enter visa-free, but nationals from these places will still be required to complete a TDAC.
