7-Eleven marks 45 years in Hong Kong - the first store opened in 1981 in Happy Valley

Hong Kong’s 7-Eleven is celebrating 45 years in the city with a retro store opening, an ‘all-you-can-pour’ slurpees event, price reversals to 1981 and a clothing launch.

The world-renowned brand opened its first 24-hour convenience store in Hong Kong on April 3, 1981, on an unassuming street corner in Happy Valley. The super-handy chain caught on and today there are more than 1,000 branches and boasting the largest retail network in Hong Kong.

To celebrate its 45th anniversary, 7-Eleven will this year be themed ‘It’s Hong Kong, It’s Us’, continuing its decades-long commitment to connecting Hong Kongers with convenience. From March 25, 7-Eleven will launch a series of celebratory events, with the first wave including the redesign of Hong Kong’s first, Happy Valley-located store. The retro new look will replicate the brand’s initial ‘Red House’ store design, with a classic red roof, dark brown brick walls and promotional slogans and menus designed in the same style as the original store. Inside, the layout replicates the original design with a food stall counter and Slurpee machine, beige walls and a classic orange, green and red colour scheme.

The celebrations will continue with an ‘All-You-Can-Pour Slurpees’ event from March 25 to 29. Head to the Happy Valley branch between 10am and 6pm with a drink bottle and enjoy unlimited slurpees for $7.

Multiple time-reversal special offers and reissued products will also be available from March 25 to 31. Snap up 7-Eleven fish balls at $7 for ten balls, Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta and Yuquan 250ml glass bottles for $7 a bottle, and 7-Eleven tea eggs at $7 for two.

7-Eleven has also launched a clothing collection, with designs that blend the brand’s signature orange, green and red colours. Items include socks, sports towels, cotton handkerchiefs and crew neck t-shirts.
