Slated to open on November 1, LUX Grand Baie Resort & Residences will be the hotel group’s new flagship property, no less.

The boutique-style resort is located in the north of Mauritius close to the island’s lively beachside cafes and bars, LUX Grand Baie is tucked away in the stunning Grand Baie lagoon. If you’re looking for emerald waters lapping silky sands, this is where you want to be.

Described as “the crown jewel of Mauritius”, LUX Grand Baie has been nurtured in the mind of The Lux Collective’s Paul Jones for some time.

“The mandate was simple: create the finest luxury resort in the Indian Ocean,” he said. “In the process it has become the flagship for LUX Resorts & Hotels and our first greenfield project in Mauritius.”

Environmentally-friendly practices have been embraced, including using renewable building materials, reducing and recycling waste, sourcing food locally and protecting the natural environment.

Comfort and a warm welcome were also important for Jones. “The ‘soul’ comes from our people, who, in Mauritius, are magical,” he said.

Mauritius-based architect Jean-Francois Adam has spearheaded the property’s design, inspired by a childhood spent on the beach where the property is located, resulting in a nautical vibe.

“I’m fascinated by the mechanics of sailboats,” said Adam. “The interrelationship between the hull and the sea, the sails and the wind, and man with nature, which conjures an image of elegance.”

British designer Kelly Hoppen has created interiors that channel the beauty of the land and the Indian Ocean with voluminous spaces that symbolise “a breath of fresh air”.

“From the moment you enter the resort, you will be met with incredible scale and a multitude of exquisite neutral and natural textiles and tones,” said Hoppen. “Everything is orchestrated to entice guests to fall into an experience of relaxation and luxury.”

First up, there’s a kids’ club which means three to 12 year olds will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities such as the Little Green Fingers gardening project, gelato-making at the Ice Cream Lab or Junior Yoga. Teens are catered for at Studio 17, with vintage arcade games, a DJ deck and a Photofanatics station. There are also also windsurf, kayak and paddle board lessons.
