Companions can travel together by sliding the central cabin panel back
British Airways has revealed its new first class suites. Finally responding to carriers that have, over the years, left the British flag-carrier in their vapour trails with fancy suites housing showers and bars, BA is back in the room, or should we say cabin, with a “next level” suite.
The suite is more of a small room, with five foot privacy walls and an electronically closing door.
BA has worked alongside British designers and manufacturers to create a new seat with a width of 36.5 inches and that reclines into a generous 79 inch (or six foot seven inch) fully rectangular bed with leather headboard. Soft panelling and upholstery have been selected to maximise sound absorbency.
A useful ottoman moves forward and backwards electronically and the stowable table is large enough for two passengers to dine together. If you’re travelling with a companion, the central cabin divider can be slid open to create a shared lounge space.
Entertainment is beamed into the suite via a 32 inch television screen and adjustable mood lighting can be set to ‘relax’, ‘dine’, ‘sleep’ or ‘cinema’. Three windows are allocated per suite with window blinds controlled via the internal control panel. A useful mobile phone stand has also been included.
“We’re incredibly proud to launch the next era of First that pushes the boundaries of comfort, luxury and modernity, taking into consideration customer preferences and expectations,” said BA’s chief customer officer, Calum Laming.
The upgrade comes as part of BA’s GBP7 billion investment in upgrades, from new short-haul seats, to free Wi-Fi messaging on board and refreshed airport lounges. The suites will be introduced onto BA’s double-decker A380s in 2026.
BA currently flies once a day to Hong Kong from London Heathrow.
