Blanc de Noirs at Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, Hong Kong
Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong has revealed further details about its soon-to-be-opened champagne bar. The suave destination is just one new addition as part of a major overhaul at the Central-located hotel.
Blanc de Noirs is situated on the seventh floor and adjacent to Mandarin Oriental’s other dining destinations, including the hotel’s flagship restaurant Amber, three-Michelin-starred Sushi Shikon, Michelin-starred Kappo Rin and French bistro SOMM.
As its moniker would suggest, Blanc de Noirs takes its design cues from a palette of black and white with Nero Marquina and Volakas white marble, bespoke Ginko leaf wallcovering and black and white photography hanging from the walls.
The bar boasts one of Asia’s most extensive champagne selections, with 25 champagnes by-the-glass and a 500-label cellar, spanning rare vintages and grower cuvées. Guests will also be able to order from Amber’s 3,000-label wine collection. Highlights include champagne flights, champagne cocktails and the nightly ‘Champagne O’clock Fountain’ and toast.
The cocktail menu explores Blanc de Noirs classics, with a playful take on the Mimosa with fresh blood orange, navel orange and Japanese mikan. Or try a Kir Royal with home-macerated Crème de Cassis or a Melon Fizz with tequila, muskmelon, lemon and Midori.
There will also be a food menu to complement the bubbles, designed by Mandarin The Landmark’s director of food and beverage, Richard Ekkebus. The plates are designed to accompany the champagne and include an artisanal charcuterie carved at the bar, as well as light-bite caviar-focused dishes like filet o’ fish with caviar and fried chicken with ranch dressing and caviar.
“With Blanc de Noirs we wanted to create a place for champagne that feels both considered and easy to return to,” said Ekkebus. “It adds a new dimension to the hotel’s dining world, something more intimate, more specialised and very much of this moment in Hong Kong.”
Blanc de Noirs opens on May 1 at 11.30am.
