For the first time there is a direct flight linking Hong Kong with the Malaysian holiday island of Langkawi.
Greater Bay Airlines took off for Langkawi last month with two nonstop charter flights. The two flights landed at Palau International Airport on August 18 and 22, enabling travellers to access the island directly from Hong Kong for the first time.
According to Travel and Tour World, the new Greater Bay Airlines’ service will operate every four to five days until October 24. The service will depart from Hong Kong at 2.10pm and arrive at 7.30pm local time. The return journey takes off from Langkawi at 8.30pm, landing back in Hong Kong at 11.25pm.
The new route is a win for Hong Kongers given Langkawi’s holiday-friendly vibes; think golden beaches, lush jungle and luxury resorts aplenty. Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, St Regis and Westin all have properties on the island and the five-star Datai Langkawi is one of the region’s most sought-after destinations.
The most popular time to visit Langkawi is during the dry season which runs from November to April. At this time visitors can expect more sunshine, less rain and calm seas. The monsoon season, from May to October, can see heavy downpours.
