One Causeway Bay dining venues revealed

• The new commercial landmark takes the space of The Excelsior Hotel which closed in 2019

• Four restaurants will open in the building's retail podium as well as a coffee shop and French patisserie

• Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will move its headquarters to the building later this year

One Causeway Bay reveals dining venues - the harbourfront building's retail podium opens this winter

One of Hong Kong's newest commercial landmarks, One Causeway Bay, has revealed the dining spots setting up on its lower floors.

Once the home of The Excelsior Hotel, the waterfront building has been transformed by parent company Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group over the last few years into a premium business and lifestyle destination with a ‘Grade A’, 25-floor office tower and a four-storey retail podium. 

The site is historically significant as it was the first plot of land sold at public auction when Hong Kong became a British colony in 1841. It was first used as a warehouse by British trading company Jardine Matheson and in 1973 reopened as The Excelsior Hong Kong, a 34-storey hotel which at the time was the largest hotel on Hong Kong Island and the tallest in the city. In spring 2019 Mandarin Oriental International closed the hotel to redevelop the site into a commercial building.

The new retail podium is set to open at the end of this year and a number of restaurants have now confirmed they have taken a space. They include Beijing Peking duck restaurant, Duck de Chine and Bolli Champagne Bar, offering wood-fired duck and bubbles; Hakata Tempura Yamaya, a Kyushu-style tempura restaurant; Shandong Chinese restaurant Zhen Lu; and A Yatai, a casual, Fukuoka-style Japanese izakaya. Popular Hong Kong coffee roaster Fineprint will be opening a cafe in the lobby and French patisserie Dalloyau will also be setting up in the retail podium.

Office space has so far been taken by companies like Alibaba Group, Cathay United Bank Company and Standard Chartered. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will relocate its Hong Kong headquarters to the building at the end of the year. 

Design credits go to architects Kohn Petersen Fox and Ronald Lu & Partners; the building features a sleek glass façade to reflect the ripples of Victoria harbour and maximise natural daylight.
