Qatar Airways has been named the World's Best Airline

Qatar Airways has been named World’s Best Airline at the annual Skytrax awards.

The national carrier of the State of Qatar also won World’s Best Business Class, Best Airline in the Middle East and Best Business Class Airline Lounge for its Al Mourjan Lounge - The Garden at Hamad International Airport. 

This is the ninth time the airline has won the top award in the 26 years that the Skytrax awards have been running, commonly referred to as the Oscars of the airline industry.

“Being named the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax for the ninth time is an extraordinary honour,” said Qatar Airways group chief executive officer, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “To retain this title in a highly competitive and ever-evolving global industry reflects the relentless efforts across every part of the business, from the front line to behind-the-scenes, the passion and commitment of our people continue to set new standards in aviation.”

Asia-based carriers dominated the top of the table with Singapore Airlines taking second place in the World’s Best Airline category and Cathay Pacific scooping third place. Emirates and ANA All Nippon Airways took fourth and fifth places respectively. 

Cathay also won World’s Best Economy Class Airline for the second consecutive year and World’s Best Inflight Entertainment for the second time in three years.

“Being voted among the top three best airlines in the world, up two places from last year, and the world’s best for economy class and inflight entertainment again is extremely encouraging,” said Cathay’s chief executive officer Ronald Lam. “We’re grateful to the incredible support of our customers and the dedication of our people across Cathay. These awards will inspire and motivate us to keep raising the bar.”

Singapore Airlines also won World’s Best Cabin Crew, World’s Best First Class and the Best Airline in Asia.
