The Lair penthouse at REM at City of Dreams
A new, all-suite luxury hotel has opened at City of Dreams, Macau.
REM, which takes its name from ‘Rapid Eye Movement’ sleep, is designed around the ‘vivid dreaming’ sleep stage with the motto ‘Shake you Awake’.
The interior of the property is designed by LW Design and is a complete refurbishment of what used to be the cylindrical Hard Rock Hotel. The design is inspired by a ‘veil and reveal’ concept, an unfolding sequence of anticipation, discovery and surprise.
The hotel offers 149 rooms and suites across seven categories, with highlights like 360-degree rotating king beds, infrared saunas and the 1,200 sqm flagship penthouse, The Lair, on the 30th floor. Amenities include an outdoor pool with poolside Reverie Café and a fitness centre.
“REM was an opportunity to explore luxury as an experience rather than something simply to be admired,” explained LW Design’s managing partner, Pooja Shah-Mulani. “We wanted to create a hotel that awakens the senses from the moment of arrival, with each space revealing something unexpected.”
The suites feature animal prints, geometric patterns and layered colour with tactile finishes and embrace three emotional settings, ‘Day’, ‘Party’ and ‘Recovery’. Day encourages clarity and focus; Party brings a more expressive, social energy; and Recovery lowers stimulation. LED story-walls, rotating beds, swing sofas and rotating maxi-bars feature, with integrated technology and discreet service.
