Luxury hospitality group Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has announced it is to open its first property in Japan.
The all-villa retreat is due to launch in Mikayo Island in the Okinawan archipelago in 2024.
The holiday destination of Okinawa is renowned for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters, with water sports including diving at Yabiji, the largest expanse of coral reef in Japan, plus deep sea fishing, snorkeling and other sunshine activities.
Rosewood Miyakojima is stunningly located on a secluded peninsula surrounded by white sand beaches, sugar cane fields, rocky cliffs and ocean views. And it’s just half an hour from Shimojishima and Miyako airports.
The resort’s 55 villas boast private pools, landscaped gardens and unobstructed sea views. Netherlands-based Studio Piet Boon and is behind the architecture and interiors design with local input from architectural specialists Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei.
Facilities include four restaurants and bars showcasing fresh seafood, island-raised beef and craft beers.
Children will be able to cut loose from parents at Rosewood Explorer’s Club and there will also be a wellness offering, Asaya, with treatment rooms set in private gardens, indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy facilities and a menu of services embracing local healing traditions.
