The best new restaurants in Hong Kong autumn 2025 - 'secret menu' braised lamb at Flat Iron Steak
This established steakhouse is breaking new ground with a venue in ifc shopping mall. The new venue is located on level four of the mall, with an open-kitchen indoor restaurant that spills onto an outdoor terrace with harbour views. Joining the team is chef Timothy Rattray, formerly of Carbone Hong Kong and US dining spot The Granary. At Flat Iron Steak, Rattray will oversee a classic menu of Hong Kong favourites as well as a monthly ‘secret menu’. Specialist nights include T-Bone Tuesday, Tomahawk Thursday and Mixed Grill Wednesday. Happy Hour on the terrace runs from 5-7pm, Monday to Friday.

From Hong Kong’s CENSU team, this ‘sake-forward’ izakaya in Sheung Wan is billed as a space to eat well, drink deeply and enjoy a night with friends. The name means “a little bit”, and the menu at Siü Siü celebrates the lively spirit of an izakaya with dishes designed for sharing. Expect bold flavours and twists on Japanese classics. Highlights include Drunken Prawn - plump red prawns cured in Shaoxing wine and herbs, Tako Avocado involving slow-cooked octopus with avocado and a hint of wasabi, and CENSU cheeseburger, a burger disguised as a spring roll with wagyu, cheese and spicy mayo. There’s a wide selection of sake, spotlighting premium Japanese breweries.

Hong Kong International Airport welcomes another coffee shop with the opening of Urban Coffee Roaster at Terminal 1. As well as a great cup of Jo, the branch is also launching a range of creative drink items, including a special ‘coffee eggnog’ creation by co-founder, Gary Au, and inspired by the Hong Kong local egg tart delicacy. Also available is the specially crafted Bon Blessing Irish Coffee, as well as the classic Hong Kong ‘cha chaan teng’ drink, Yuen Yeung, which mixes a specialty coffee with Hong Kong-style milk tea. And don’t miss the Pineapple Bun with Coffee Butter drink, available exclusively at this new location.

Specialising in refined Yunnan cuisine, Mushroom Hong Kong has opened in Lang Kwai Fong’s swanky California Tower. The dining spot is a sister restaurant to Shanghai’s Mó Huan Bistro and introduces Hong Kong diners to "authentic and sophisticated" modern Dian cuisine. The menu is a curated selection of flavours pulled together by the Yunnan chef team, featuring seasonal ingredients with a focus on the region’s prized mushrooms and distinctive spices. Dishes are inspired by the Wa people with bold spice combinations, and the Dai people, experts at balancing sour, spicy, fresh and fragrant notes. Expect mushroom dishes, cured meats, milk-based puddings and local snacks.

The infamous bakery has now opened a branch on Victoria Peak. Billed as where Hong Kong’s egg tart obsession meets the city’s most iconic views, this latest Bakehouse iteration is located inside The Peak Tower and is the bakery’s eighth venue in the city. Michaud, a former executive pastry chef at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, launched Bakehouse in 2013 as a supplier of quality breads and fine pastries to five-star and Michelin restaurants across town, opening his first neighbourhood bakery in Wan Chai in 2018. The Peak venue will be stocking all the usual favourites as well as two exclusive creations, the Sun Kwai Heung Char Siu Turnover and the Mala Scallion Danish. Take a seat and soak up the views or grab a bite-to-go.

Min Dong Cart Noodle has opened at Basehall 02 in Central. The purveyor of old-school dai pai dong-style cuisine offers guests a build-your-own bowl option, with three, four or five toppings paired with noodle options. Begin by selecting either oil noodles, egg noodles, ho fun (ride noodles) or rice vermicelli and select from three types of sauce, including braised beef brisket and homemade satay. There are then 24 topping choices; highlights include Five Spice Beef Brisket, Homemade Chinese Chive Dumplings, Curry Fish Balls and Braised Chicken Feet with Abalone Sauce. Then dine-in at Basehall or takeaway back to the office.
