WestK Quay opens with direct ferry service to Central

West Kowloon Cultural District is finally to benefit from a direct transport link with Central on Hong Kong Island.

On November 15, WestK Quay will launch, offering a regular ferry service with Central Ferry Piers. WestK Quay is located on the harbourfront promenade just near to M+, the contemporary visual culture museum on the West Kowloon waterfront.

Until now, reaching the museums and restaurants of West Kowloon Cultural District has involved navigating mini-buses and buses or embarking on a not inconsiderable walk from the nearest MTR station inside Elements shopping mall.

The new quay will be served by the WestK Ferry service which will run from 8am until late, seven days a week. The service is currently undergoing a four day trial-run, followed by a launch ceremony on November 14 before opening to the general public on November 15.

The WestK Ferry design is inspired by ocean waves and has been co-created with students from Hong Kong Design Institute. The ferry service connects WestK Quay with Central Ferry Pier number nine, with boats departing every 30 minutes between 8am and 10pm Monday to Friday with extended hours to 11pm on weekends and public holidays. The service takes eight minutes. All vessels are air conditioned and pets are allowed onboard.

A single adult fare costs HK$20 and the same for each pet. Concession fares of HK$10 are available for children aged three to 11 years, seniors over 65 years and the disabled. Commuters can take advantage of a HK$560 monthly pass which allows for unlimited rides on the WestK Ferry in the specified calendar month.

Five food and beverage outlets will also open near WestK Quay from November 13 offering passengers a selection of snacks and drinks.
