What we know so far about Legoland Shenzhen Resort

Legoland Shenzhen Resort

Work is continuing apace at the Dapeng Peninsula-located resort

Work began on the world’s largest Legoland back in 2021 and although there is so far no official launch date, the park has now entered an accelerated construction phase.

The destination will boast a theme park, waterpark and three Legoland themed hotels. There will be nine themed areas, more than 100 rides, plus shows and attractions.

At the beginning of this year it was reported that construction of the themed areas in the resort’s theme park were nearing completion. The park was originally slated to open in 2024 but it’s now looking like late 2025 or possibly 2026 is the more likely launch date.

The park is located on Shenzhen’s Dapeng Peninsula to the east of the city, surrounded by mountains and sea, and will be the first international family entertainment theme park resort in the Greater Bay Area. The park is operated by Merlin Entertainments which already manages a raft of theme parks in China, including four further Legoland centres, five Madame Tussauds, Sea Life centres and Peppa Pig World of Play.

The resort is aimed at children aged between two and 12 years. According to the Legoland Shenzhen management team, the resort will include both indoor and outdoor play areas. Miniland, one of the core areas of the Legoland parks, will be located indoors with high-tech digital interactive experiences that “play tribute to the beauty of Shenzhen and China through representative landmarks, cultural and everyday life scenes”.

The resort will feature Legoland’s largest ever theatre with seating for 1,000 and there will be educational based learning opportunities such as a creative robot workshop, a driving school and a rescue academy.

“To our delight, construction of the themed areas within Legoland Theme Park is nearing completion,” said chief development officer, John Jakobsen. “The most signature area of these, Legoland Creative World, has seen positive progress. Its main structure is the largest individual building in the theme park and has now entered the topping-out phase. In 2025, Legoland Shenzhen resort is entering an accelerated construction phase.”

The resort is supported by government development around the project in Dapeng New District, including new hotels, parks and transportation hubs, with a total investment of 30 billion yuan (US$4.1 billion).
