Sun PhuQuoc Airways' team members celebrate the delivery of the airline's first aircraft in Phu Quoc

Brand new airline Sun PhuQuoc Airways welcomed its very first plane this week with the delivery to Phu Quoc airport of an Airbus A321NX aircraft. The plane is the first in a fleet of eight scheduled for delivery throughout the remainder of 2025 ahead of the carrier’s first commercial flight slated for November.

Developed by Sun Group, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will initially link the island of Phu Quoc with destinations within Vietnam and eventually expand internationally.

The island of Phu Quoc, known as Vietnam’s ‘pearl island’ has seen huge tourism-driven growth over recent years and the airline launches as Phu Quoc gears up to host the APEC forum (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) in 2027. The event will welcome thousands of delegates from 21 APEC member countries.

The delivery ceremony also marked the debut of Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ brand livery, featuring flame scarlet and golden orange colours inspired by the “crimson glow of Phu Quoc’s sunsets and the golden brilliance of its sunrises”.

“With a mission embedded in its very name, Sun PhoQuoc Airways aims to position Phu Quoc as an attractive international destination and a new aviation hub for the region,” said Dang Minh Truong, chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group. “The airline will also expand international routes from key and high-potential markets, making it easier for travellers to reach Phu Quoc and fully experience its natural beauty, culture and services.”

He added that the airline launch was not just a development strategy but a “source of pride in contributing and elevating one of Vietnam’s most beautiful island destinations onto the world stage”.

There are no more details so far regarding flight routes, but ticket sales are expected to open in October.
