Disney Adventure, Asia’s much-anticipated inaugural Disney cruise ship, sets sail this week.
A glitzy launch ceremony was held in Singapore ahead of the ship finally casting anchor with special appearances from Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse, a 23-piece orchestra and Disney, Pixar and Marvel melodies performed by singer-songwriters Jed Madela and Dami Im.
The ship will set sail from Singapore on March 10 with space for 6,700 passengers, more than 20 dining venues, eight live shows, a roller coaster, Disney character appearances, seven themed areas and a fireworks display at sea.
The family-friendly ship has been designed specifically for the Asian market and will not call at ports on route; the vessel is the destination. Â
Just some of the fun attractions include a bumper car ride, spinning spaceships and the Ironcycle Test Run, which at 250m is the longest roller coaster at sea, looping half the length of the ship.
Themed areas feature Disney Imagination Garden in the centre of the ship and overlooked by the upper decks. The space includes the Garden Stage which hosts live shows, a three-storey Disney castle and food kiosks.
The Disney Discovery Reef is inspired by The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo and is designed to mimic an ocean reef.Â
On San Fransokyo Street cruisers can explore an indoor arcade zone including Hiro Training Zone, a digital gaming floor. The ship’s kids’ clubs Vibe and Edge are also located in this area.
Children’s water play area, Toy Story Place, is inspired by Toy Story with two slides, Woody and Jessie’s Wild Slides, and huge screens playing Disney films with lounge seating. Food kiosks serve snacks and ice creams.
On the upper decks, Wayfinder Bay sits around a pool and performance stage with tiered deck seating. Relax on a sun lounger and enjoy live music performances.
Entertainment includes brand new stage shows, ‘Duffy and The Friend Ship’ at Disney Imagination Garden and ‘Captain Jack Sparrow & The Siren Queen’, also at Disney Imagination Garden. Live performances of ‘Moana’ will take place at Wayfinder Bay.
