Free layover tour service launches at HKIA - head to the new trip. com counter at the airport
A free layover tour service for transit passengers has been launched in Hong Kong.
If you’re transiting through Hong Kong and have time to fill, a range of local experience tours are now available through trip.com. The tours are open to transit passengers with layovers of seven hours or more at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and offer a “complimentary local experience”.
Trip.com recently launched transit trips in China, including the Shanghai Express and Beijing Express layover tours, and has so far whisked more than 14,000 transit travellers around the cities' sights. In Hong Kong, three free tours and three premium (paid for) tours, all bookable from a dedicated trip.com travel consultation and booking counter, launched this month at HKIA.
The free layover tour features three curated routes showcasing Hong Kong’s cityscapes, natural environment and arts scene. There are three further premium, paid itineraries touring Lantau Island, the traditional fishing village of Tai O and Victoria Peak.
The tours include English-speaking guides and are scheduled to align with peak transit hours, allowing passengers to make the most of their time in Hong Kong. Each tour can accommodate up to 20 guests and lasts for around four hours. Included are transfer arrangements with fast-track passes to re-enter the restricted airside airport area and connect to onward flights.
The Hong Kong tour options
Three, free-of-charge half-day tours for transit passengers include Serenity & Stories: A Harmony Journey aimed at families and features a visit to Inspiration Lake near Disneyland and the historic Ma Wan fishing village. Heritage and Local Lifestyle Citywalk takes in Pei Ho Street market in Sham Shui Po and Wong Tai Sin temple. And Victoria & West Kowloon Waterfront Journey explores the West Kowloon Cultural District and Avenue of Stars.
The three premium itineraries require advance booking by noon the previous day. The tours include Lantau Island Half-Day Tour with a ride on the Ngong Ping 360 cable car and a visit to the Big Buddha and Ngong Ping Village. The Peak Half-Day Tour includes an exploration of colonial architecture at Stanley Police Station and Murray House and a trip up Victoria Peak on the Peak Tram. And Tai O Water Village Tour features a visit to the century-old stilt houses of Hong Kong’s most renowned traditional fishing village.
Bookings can be made on the trip.com app or website, or in-person at HKIA’s transit counters E134 and E135, or at the trip.com Travel Services Counter at Arrival Hall A. Each trip lasts around four hours.
