Akira Back

Great brunches in Hong Kong - the elevated brunch option at Akira Back
Akira Back at The Henderson launches a weekend brunch this month. The new brunch at the Korean-Japanese-influenced restaurant is designed for sharing; every two guests select three appetisers from a menu of signatures and seasonal specials. Highlights include galbi short rib ‘ssam’ (where leafy vegetables are used to ‘wrap’ the meat), inspired by chef Back’s mother’s recipe. This is followed by a signature Live Seafood Trolley, sushi or maki rolls and then a mains menu with ‘flame-kissed’ grill dishes from land and sea; think Iberico pork rack, Australian lamb chop and Pacific octopus. Puds run to AB chocolate pizza with sweet layers of Bavarois truffle mousse and vanilla tuile, and chocolate mille feuille with sakura sencha jelly and Earl Grey ice cream.
Akira Back Weekend Brunch Sharing Menu, $688 per person (two-hour free-flow champagne and sake $300 per person), from April 4, midday to 2.30pm, Akira Back, 5/F, The Henderson, 2 Murray Road, Central; 9733 8988.

Associazione Chianti

Great brunches in Hong Kong - Florentine feasting at Associazione Chianti
Head to Florence for the weekend courtesy of this Italian trattoria’s weekend feast (albeit a ‘lunch’ rather than a ‘brunch’). The recently introduced Florentine sharing feast at Associazione Chianti is available on both Saturday and Sunday, with dishes served family-style for two or more guests to enjoy convivially. Associazione Chianti is located on one of Hong Kong’s most popular foodie streets and is renowned for its homemade pasta, great steaks and, as its moniker would suggest, an extensive Chianti wine menu. A highlight of the weekend lunch is Associazione Chianti’s Garganelli Omaggio a Camillo, or pasta with a Chianti beef ragu. Meanwhile, the centrepiece of the meal is a choice between bone-in striploin or succulent t-bone Bistecca alla Fiorentina, cooked thick-cut in Florentine style.
Weekend lunch, $588 per person, midday to 2pm, Associazione Chianti, 15 Ship Street, Wan Chai; 3619 3360.
