Hong Kong Airlines launches direct flights with Laos

Hong Kong Airlines now flies direct to Vientiane

Hong Kong Airlines this week launched a direct service with Vientiane in Laos. The service will operate on weekends using Airbus A320 aircraft.

Laos is located in the heart of Southeast Asia and borders China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar.

To celebrate the launch, a small ceremony was held at Hong Kong airport attended by Gary Zhan, president of Hong Kong Airlines, Saenchonghack Ammala, consul general of Laos in Hong Kong and air services personnel.

“Over the years, we have been operating scheduled flights to destinations along the Belt and Road, including Denpasar in Indonesia, Bangkok in Thailand, Seoul in Korea and more than ten cities in mainland China,” said Zhan. “With the addition of a Vientiane service, Hong Kong Airlines will continue to contribute to the development and strengthening of the Belt and Road initiative by fostering connectivity and promoting collaboration.”

Laos has remained relatively unconnected to the rest of Southeast Asia with few direct flights. It boasts stunning landscapes, a rich cultural heritage and myriad historical sites. Lush jungles, cascading waterfalls and pristine national parks remain relatively untouched by mass tourism.

Flight HX562 will depart Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport at 2.55pm on Saturdays, arriving at Vientiane Wattay international airport in Laos at 4.20pm. The return flight, HX563, will depart Vientiane at 5.20pm, also on Saturdays, landing back in Hong Kong at 8.40pm.
