Hong Kong Airlines to launch Melbourne service - the news was announced by (l to r) Hong Kong Airlines' Jeff Sun, Victoria's minister for Economic Growth Danny Pearson and Melbourne Airport CEO, Lorie Argus
Hong Kong Airlines is launching a third Australian route. Hot on the tail of its inaugural Sydney service, the airline announced this week that it will soon be taking off for Melbourne.
The three-times-a-week route to the Victorian capital will launch on December 12, departing from Hong Kong on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The return flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Hong Kong Airlines president Jeff Sun pointed out that this is another key Australian destination for the airline, following the resumption of Hong Kong Airlines’ Gold Coast service in January and launch of a Sydney route in June.
“Looking ahead, we will leverage the enhanced capacity of Hong Kong International Airport's Three-Runway System to open up more attractive new destinations for our passengers," he said.
Melbourne Airport chief executive officer, Lorie Argus, pointed out that Hong Kong is the fourth largest international market for Melbourne airport. He said he was expecting strong demand for the new service.
“The arrival of Hong Kong Airlines will provide more choice and greater capacity into one of Asia’s biggest international hubs,” she said.
The service will be operated by Airbus A330 aircraft with economy and business class cabins.
