Hong Kong Airlines is harnessing panda power following a collaboration with Ocean Park.
Airline boss Jeff Sun this week signed a three-year strategic partnership agreement with the theme park. The partnership will be spearheaded by a specially commissioned ‘panda plane’ featuring a full livery of Ocean Park’s ‘Panda Friends’ characters.
To commemorate the partnership, the signing ceremony was held at Ocean Park’s Great Panda Adventure exhibit. The event was attended by Sun, who is president of Hong Kong Airlines, and Ivan Wong, chief executive of Ocean Park Corporation.
According to Hong Kong Airlines, the partnership signals a joint commitment to merge aviation services with premier tourism and entertainment experiences, showcasing Hong Kong’s unique appeal to a global audience.
“We are deeply honoured to embark on this strategic partnership with Ocean Park, a brand that holds a special place in the collective memory and pride of Hong Kong people,” said Sun. “This panda-themed aircraft is more than just a commitment to promoting Hong Kong tourism, it is a symbol of our dedication to creating flying experiences that are not only distinctly Hong Kong but also emotionally engaging. We look forward to leveraging the power of aviation to carry the charm and hospitality of Hong Kong to every corner of the globe.”
The distinctly liveried A320 plane will enter service in the first half of 2026 and will fly to the majority of destinations across the Hong Kong Airlines network, Sun confirmed. He added that the aircraft would serve as Hong Kong’s “ambassador in the sky”. The panda plane decoration will include twin pandas Jia Jia and De De, both born and raised in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Airlines and Ocean Park will also launch special travel packages featuring attractive flight and admission ticket bundles. The partnership will explore further collaborations over the next three years, including reciprocal membership benefits and community outreach programmes.
