Hong Kong Airlines is doubling down on its panda-themed collaboration with Ocean Park with the unveiling of a brand new suite of Panda Friends-themed cabin interiors and collectibles.
The airline launched a special Panda Friends livery in March this year to celebrate Ocean Park’s Hong Kong-born giant panda twins, Jia Jia and De De. The fuselage of the aircraft incorporates Ocean Park’s fictional panda characters, An An, Ke Ke, Ying Ying and Le Le, alongside the Hong Kong-born giant panda twins. The artwork depicts the six pandas setting off from Ocean Park with their passports and cameras, taking the role of tourism ambassadors as they travel the world with passengers on board.
The airline has now announced that a new suite of panda-themed cabin interiors will debut on board Hong Kong Airlines’ Chengdu service, the hometown of the giant panda. The cabin decorations include themed food and drink and exclusive merchandise.
The experience begins with a specially designed boarding pass featuring the six pandas. On board, the pandas can be found across the cabin ceiling and overhead bins, transforming the flight into a ‘panda playground’. The headrest covers are also adorned with giant panda motifs and the on-board hospitality trolleys have been refreshed with Panda Friends livery. And if you’re flying business class, you can catch a panda media installation at Hong Kong Airlines’ lounge, Club Autus, at Hong Kong International Airport.
A series of Panda Friends collector’s items have been developed by the airline’s design team and Ocean Park, including limited-edition die-cast aircraft models, blind box figurines, Jia Jia and De De-themed eye masks, and panda luggage tags and key chains. Pre-orders can now be placed online at HKA Collection.
