Causeway Bay has a mysterious new dining destination. Yakiniku Yama Oku has soft-opened at Cubus, offering an intimate, 12-seat counter experience dedicated to the art of premium ‘yakiniku kappo’ (theatre-style cut-and-cook barbecue). Inspired by Japan’s pre-Meiji era, when locals secretly gathered in remote mountain huts to grill over hearths, the restaurant channels that exact sense of hidden seclusion with a contemporary, cave-like interior. Helmed by a seasoned culinary team from Fukuoka, the restaurant serves up prized, beautifully marbled Omi beef from Shiga and award-winning Oita wagyu. Dinner menus showcase a masterful range of slicing, grilling and straw-roasting techniques and rice is prepared with pure alkaline spring water inside traditional Nagatanien clay pots.
