Legoland Shanghai Resort is the world's 11th Legoland to open
The world’s largest Legoland has announced it’s ready to open on July 5.
Legoland Shanghai Resort will feature eight themed sections including Ninjago and Lego Friends lands and Monkie Kids, the first themed land of its kind inspired by the Monkey King of the 16th century classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. Monkie Kids will be complemented by a live show.
Another star attraction looks set to be ‘Miniland’, a mini replica of Shanghai’s Lujiazui financial district including the world-famous Bund promenade and modern-day skyscrapers. Miniland took 168,000 hours to complete using a massive 20 million tiny plastic bricks.
Legoland Shanghai Resort is a destination designed for families with children aged two to 12 years. This will be the 11th Legoland globally and the first to open in China. With more than 75 interactive rides, shows and attractions, families can ride a roller coaster, obtain a driving license at the Lego Driving School and experience firefighting missions at the Lego Fire Academy.
The resort will also feature a 250-room Legoland hotel.
According to officials, it’s hoped the US$550 million resort, located in the southwestern Jinshan district, will attract up to 2.4 million visitors a year.
Two more China-based Legoland theme parks are currently under construction, one in Shenzhen in Guangdong province and another in Sichuan's Chengdu city.
Legoland Shanghai Resort joins other major family attractions to recently open in China, including Shanghai Disney Resort and Universal Studios Beijing. A Harry Potter Studio Tour is set to open in Shanghai in 2027.
