Pony World opens at Hong Kong Jockey Club - children enjoying a tour of the stables

Pony World has opened as part of Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Year of the Horse campaign. The new visitor experience is located at Penfold Park near to Sha Tin Racecourse and offers a raft of interactive equestrian activities for both locals and tourists.

Penfold Park is part of the Sha Tin Racecourse development in the city’s New Territories region. It served as one of the venues for the equestrian events of the Beijing Olympics in 2008, which marked a milestone in the development of equestrian sport in the city.

It’s hoped that Pony World will add a fresh dimension to Penfold Park and its legacy of community service, reflecting the Jockey Club’s commitment to popularising equine sports.

The new child-friendly attraction aims to boost interest in equestrian sports and raise awareness of animal care through a range of activities for families and school groups. Children can tour the stables, take photos with the mini ponies and join workshops. There’s hands-on learning at the activity zone where kids are introduced to pony care and horse behaviour and there’s also an opportunity to enjoy a pony ride with an experienced coach (children must be aged three years and older).

The Penfold Park renovation has been underway since 2023 with the first two phases now completed. They include upgrades to the park’s landscape and facilities and the introduction of Pony World. Phase Three will eventually upgrade the park facilities further still and improve connectivity between the grandstands at Sha Tin Racecourse and the park.

The Club’s Year of the Horse campaign is a year-long celebration of the bond between people and horses and also of the contribution racing makes to Hong Kong.

During the racing season (September to mid-July), Pony World is open daily, although it will be closed on race days. During the out-of-season period, the attraction will be closed on Mondays. There are two daily sessions, 10am to midday and 2.30 to 4.30pm. Tickets cost HK$50. More details can be found online at hkjc.com/pony-world.
