The best luxury family resorts in Bali

Updated: Dec 18, 2025

  • Bali has stood the test of time as one of Southeast Asia's most cherished destinations - and there's a lot to love

  • Often referred to as the 'Island of the Gods', Bali boasts stunning natural landscapes, a fascinating Hindu culture and a vibrant arts scene

  • We travelled from busy Seminyak in the west to serene Sanur in the east, Ubud in the cultural centre of the island and to the remote east coast

Ayana Bali - Jimbaran Bay

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - Ayana Bali boasts no fewer than 14 pools

Located on the sunset-friendly west side of the island, Ayana Bali is a stunning community of resorts spread over the lush green lawns and manicured gardens of an estate that eventually slopes down towards the towering cliffs of Jimbaran Bay. The estate is home to four resorts, Ayana Resort Bali, Ayana Rimba Bali, Ayana Segara Bali and Ayana Villas Bali. While Ayana Segara is reserved for adult-only guests, both Ayana Resort and Ayana Rimba embrace families, particularly the forested Rimba. Children’s facilities at both Ayana Resort and Ayana Rimba have recently been upgraded and feature a wealth of outdoor, softplay and quiet-time fun. At Ayana Resort, fun water slides link the play areas with the children’s pool. Along with a generous outdoor play area (rumoured to be the largest outdoor play park in Bali) with plenty for older children and a huge indoor soft play area, Rimba also offers a dedicated baby room for 0 to six year olds with ball pits, sensory play, slides and more. The sprawling estate boasts no fewer than 14 pools and 13 restaurants and the sandy beach is linked to the clifftop by a glass elevator (head after dark to check out the many monkeys that congregate by the lift shaft). Facilities at Ayana Bali include a kids’ club, cinema, pitch and putt golf and even an on-site museum dedicated to Balinese heritage. The whole estate is linked by cute trams you can hop on and off of.

What we love: The sense of space - with sprawling lawns and generous facilities, Ayana Bali is a spectacular resort in which to stretch out and enjoy some family time.

Andaz Bali - Sanur

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - this beachfront resort is perfect for families

Andaz Bali is located on the east coast of Bali at Sanur, one of the island’s oldest tourist areas and renowned for its relaxed atmosphere, calm beaches and beautiful sunrises. This laid-back neighbourhood is a world away from Bali’s busier hotspots of Seminyak and Kuta and Andaz Bali is a real gem of a resort. It’s located adjacent to what was once the world-renowned Bali Hyatt, Bali’s original and oldest international resort hotel. This property has now been rebranded as Hyatt Regency and neighbouring Andaz Bali added to the portfolio. Andaz Bali is a beautifully landscaped resort with lush gardens that unfurl onto the creamy sands and tranquil waters of Fisherman’s Beach. The heart of the resort is the manicured lawn of the ‘village square’, around which sit the four indoor-outdoor dining spaces and public areas. In the middle of the green is a Balinese family temple. The tinkling fountains, fish ponds and pools throughout the resort create an atmosphere of calm; three swimming pools include Liang, an ocean-front resort pool, Santhi, a hidden lagoon and Alit, a children’s pool. Andaz Bali and Hyatt Regency Bali are both closely linked with the recently opened Sea Turtle Village Conservation Programme located between the two properties on the beachfront. Head over to find out more about turtle conservation in Bali and the efforts of this particular unit.

From January 7 to March 31, 2026, Andaz Bali will be offering 15% off its Best Available Rates. See online for more details.

What we love: The serene and laid back ambiance - gentle craft activities are laid out for children as breakfast is served and later on, winding, shady paths lead you to the immaculate beach.

Tanah Gajah - Ubud

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - pool villas overlooking rice fields at Tanah Gajah

The historic estate of Tanah Gajah is located just outside of Ubud, Bali’s ‘arts and crafts’ centre. This is one of the island’s most captivating resorts, and as a former family estate, it warmly welcomes children. The sweeping lawns of the Tanah Gajah estate, surrounded by paddy fields, were once the family holiday home of the late renowned Indonesian art collector and architect, Hendra Hadiprana. In his day, Hadiprana worked on some of Bali’s most acclaimed properties, including the InterContinental Bali Resort and the Legian Bali. In the 1980s, he turned his attention to his own backyard and had a raft of private villas built for his family on the Ubud estate, set around pools and with rolling green lawns for large family gatherings. In total, twenty villas are scattered across the 12-acre estate, running from one bedroom suites to two-bedroom family pool villas. The estate was, of course, originally designed for a family and along with the main pool, there’s also a pool specifically for families, right on the spot where the Hadiprana family once gathered. It has a smaller wading pool for toddlers and a deeper section for teens and parents. The resort recently launched an art room with art materials and colouring books to introduce Balinese culture to children.

What we love: The local touch - don’t miss the twice-weekly ‘kacek’ fire show put on by local villagers, or a stroll through the paddy fields and neighbouring village with Nik, learning about Bali’s rice culture.

The Seed - East coast

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - take a break on Bali's secluded east coast

The Seed on Bali’s remote east coast is not your typical holiday resort. This private estate was originally conceived as a small, secluded community for friends to get together, but later pivoted to welcoming guests. At The Seed you don’t rent a villa or a room, you rent the entire resort, making it a perfect getaway for family friends or multigenerational groups. Four, eco-focused villas are dotted within the property, which sits between the volcanic shores and dramatic mountain ranges of Candidasa, once a string of fishing villages. The resort was built for play and includes two pools, a 22m oceanfront pool and a waterfall pool, both with shallow areas for kids. There’s a ladder to a birdsnest diving board with a lookout platform and a Peter Pan-style pulley basket to ferry snacks up and down. Enjoy movies under the stars at the outdoor oceanfront cinema, or head to Villa Underground for its soundproof media room with DJ equipment and musical instruments. Meanwhile, Villa Rabbithole boasts vintage board games like billiards, ping-pong, chess and darts and a private bartender. Off-site adventures include horse riding, trekking, snorkelling and fishing expeditions in the Blue Lagoon, luxury yacht charters, Nusa Islands flight tours and chauffeured day trips to Bali’s landmarks. The four villas have eight bedrooms in total, including kids’ rooms with bunk beds and staff rooms if required.

What we love: The unique take - there is no other resort on the island (or in Southeast Asia) quite like The Seed and in a location a world away from the Bali that is known to most visitors.

KLEO Seminyak - Seminyak

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - stylish colour pops and neighbourhood views at KLEO Seminyak

This boutique property opened earlier this year in the heart of bustling Seminyak. This is the first time Hyatt’s JdV (Joie de Vivre) brand has opened in Southeast Asia, a collection that specialises in “vibrant, independent, neighbourhood” hotels. KLEO Seminyak is ideally placed for both the beach and the restaurants, shops and spas of downtown Seminyak. The hotel’s stunning lobby features an open roof over a plant-draped courtyard and huge ground level water feature that catches the raindrops during a shower. Stylish colour pops in the rooms make a welcome break from the usual monotone Scandi beiges and windows boast lively neighbourhood and temple views. King rooms with courtyard gardens provide contained outdoor space (ideal for energetic littlies) while the smart twin rooms would suit older teens. Perched above the district, Rooftop Social provides a Riviera-style escape; communal spaces include a rooftop lounge and pool with sunny yellow parasols. KLEO’s culinary heart is led by Maurizio Bombini, one of Bali’s most innovative Italian chefs. Zia Tina is inspired by Puglian cuisine; expect handmade pastas, thin-crust pizzas and produce-driven dishes featuring seasonal ingredients from Italy and Bali.

What we love: Compact and in the heart of the action - the hotel  is minutes to the beach as well as opening onto Seminyak’s lively streets.

The Legian Seminyak, Bali - Seminyak

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - The Legian one of the finest oceanfront's in Southeast Asia

Arguably the closest Bali comes to a ‘Grand Dame’ hotel, The Legian Seminyak occupies a substantial oceanfront block in Bali’s busy Seminyak district. Originally opened in 1996, the imposing resort has stood the test of time and remains one of the island’s most luxurious destinations. Designed by the late Indonesian architect, Hendra Hadiprana, the property oozes heritage charm, all polished floorboards and exquisite service. The hotel has been around long enough for today's guests to recall holidaying there as children themselves, and offers babysitting services and a children’s club to keep the next generation suitably content. The Legian’s imposing beachfront position enables a show-stopping, terraced infinity pool set amongst pretty landscaped gardens and The Restaurant, one of Bali’s finest oceanfront dining spots. If you really want to amp up the luxe factor, book The Club by The Legian Seminyak, a private retreat with just eleven villas, each with its own walled garden and swimming pool. Club guests also have access to a private butler, a chauffeured limousine and are free to use the Club Lounge.

What we love: The decadence - staying in one of Southeast Asia’s finest hotels is a real treat, especially when the property comes with such a dramatic oceanfront pool.

Meliá Bali - Nusa Dua

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - kids' movie night under the stars at Meliá Bali

Nusa Dua on Bali’s southern tip is a sprawling development of luxury hotels, golf courses and shopping malls. Meliá Bali was one of the first hotels to open in this notable resort enclave, boasting spacious gardens, meandering water features, lagoon pools and stunning Balinese architecture. The gardens are a haven for native birds and butterflies and feel a million miles away from the crowds of Kuta. The property offers a range of room types, from pretty garden view rooms to two-storey family suites with separate twin rooms for children and relaxing views over the gardens. If you want to elevate your stay, you can opt to book with The Level, which comes with additional benefits such as private check-in and check-out, a separate breakfast area as well as access to the main breakfast buffet and a separate lagoon pool, plus complimentary cocktails and afternoon tea. There are heaps of activities to keep kids busy. The ever-changing daily kids’ programme includes activities like balloon twisting, painting, mini yoga, Balinese crafts, treasure hunts, kite flying and fish feeding. Older children can take part in the Junior programme, with stand-up paddle board lessons, pool games, soccer matches and water polo. Babysitting and nannies are also available but need to be booked a day in advance. Further resort activities include yoga, pilates, canoeing, basketball, squash, padel tennis, tennis, Muay Thai boxing and futsal.

What we love: The family-friendly location - the hotel is right on the beachfront and linked by a paved coastal walkway kids will love to toddle or cycle along, with the beach on one side and manicured hotel lawns on the other.

Conrad Bali - Nusa Dua area

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - blues as far as the eye can see

One of the major plus points for staying at Conrad Bali is its proximity to Denpasar airport, which is no mean attribute when you consider how clogged Bali's roads are these days; in all, it’s a mere 15 minute drive along the new-ish toll road that links with the Nusa Dua peninsula. The other plus is its stunning resort pool. This vast expanse of blue unfurls before you, merging with the sparkling ocean and finally the horizon beyond. Conrad Bali is undergoing something of a facelift at the moment and recently unveiled a brand new Conrad Spa. Complimentary wellness experiences for in-house guests include the entirely relaxing SWAY Sleep Journey, perfect for exhausted parents who have just navigated Indonesian immigration. Next for an upgrade is the children’s club which is located down by the beach. As for accommodation, the suites, with their separate living and dining areas, are recommended for families, although select rooms offer a swim-up patio with direct access to the lagoon pool which are worth considering if you have swimming age youngsters. There’s cycling and tennis as well as mum-and-me/dad-and-me spa packages and family dining experiences including beach barbecues, cooking classes and fire dance buffets.

What we love: Airport proximity and a stunning pool - both perfect excuses for letting go, relaxing and enjoying time with the family.

The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas - Nusa Dua

best luxury family resorts in Bali

The best luxury family resorts in Bali - there's loads of fun for kids at The Mulia

This luxurious resort is located along the popular seafront strip at Nusa Dua in the south of Bali. The family-welcoming resort offers three different stay options; The Mulia has all-suite accommodation with butler service, while Mulia Resort boasts both rooms and suites. However, families will be interested to know that the resort spent much of 2025 upgrading Mulia Villas to include the brand new, family-size Royal Villas. Each Royal Villa has been designed with young families in mind, with space to comfortably accommodate two adults and two children. The open-plan layouts include a separate room for children, private hydrotherapy pool, sun-dappled pavilion and daybed patio, indoor-outdoor showers and a jacuzzi tub. A 24-hour butler is there to cater to your every whim, including arranging gourmet in-villa dining. Guests staying in a Royal Villa can also access The Lounge and The Living Room with daily breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktails and canapés, as well as enjoying priority reservations for Mulia’s restaurants, spa and private pool cabanas. Further kids facilities around the resort include a Kidz Club for three to eight year olds, Mulia Kidz Explorer for eight to 12 year olds, T-Zone for Teens, beachfront play zones, a splash pool, bouncy castles and a welcome ice cream for all youngsters.

What we love: The warm family welcome, from spacious villa accommodation to fun activities for all ages, like the T-Zone for older children and the Kids’ Passport Programme.

When to go

Bali enjoys year-round sunshine (and lots of visitors to go with it!). However, rainy season kicks in from November and runs through to April; you might be lucky, but there can be heavy daily downpours at this time. The busiest months are over the northern hemisphere summer (June, July, August) and also during the Christmas period.
