Tuck-in at the hottest new tables in Hong Kong this summer. By Carolynne Dear and Gayatri Bhaumik
Sichuan Rouge

The best new restaurants in Hong Kong summer 2025 - a taste of the hot stuff at Sichuan Rouge
Get ready to tickle your tastebuds at this new venue in Causeway Bay, helmed by Sichuan chef, Hu Taiqing, and Hong Kong local, Kenny Chan. The raison d’être for this new eatery is to showcase affordable, fine Sichuan cuisine. Ingredients are sourced from Sichuan province and Chongqing and the culinary team will be challenging the notion that Sichuan food is solely about numbing spiciness. Instead, they’ll be introducing diners to a complex array of flavours. A bouquet of more than 40 spices and herbs infuses a feast of appetisers, soups, classic hot dishes, authentic rice and noodle preparations and desserts.
Décor is inspired by the glamorous nightlife hotspot of Shek Tong Tsui in 1930s Hong Kong (rewind to when the area was a bustling hub of restaurants, opera houses and opium dens). Chinese lanterns, traditional Sichuan architecture, Chinese hard-wood cabinets and neon signs complete the look.
Diners can tuck-in in the dining room or head out to the harbour-view terrace of sister restaurant, A Smoking Affair.

The Lasagna Factory

The best new restaurants in Hong Kong summer 2025 - Italian home comforts at The Lasagna Factory
Hong Kong Italophiles rejoice, another Italian-style eatery is coming to the territory. The Lasagna Factory is opening on Hollywood Road in August, featuring comfort food and communal dining from the team behind Flat Iron.
The Lasagna Factory is inspired by the recipes of one Italian nonna; the venue's executive chef channels his childhood afternoons spent in the kitchen with his grandmother, pulling together wagyu beef meatballs in tomato ragu, tortellini alla ragu tossed in butter sauce with bolognese, parmesan cheese and fresh organo, nonna’s moreish garlic bread - and (natch) three signature lasagnas.
The wagyu short rib lasagna is layered with 24-hour slow-braised beef and silky sheets of pasta, while the sand crab lasagna in vodka sauce is sweet and rich with a tangy taste. The organic mushroom lasagna is packed with the earthy depth of mushrooms and fresh herbs. If you don’t fancy lasagna, sharing steaks are also available.
For pud, tuck into classic tiramisu scooped straight from the serving bowl and dished out tableside, or there’s housemade gelato and vanilla panna cotta.

Torikizoku

The best new restaurants in Hong Kong summer 2025 - a taste of Japan at Tai Po Mega Mall
The popular Japanese yakitori joint has opened its second Hong Kong location following the success of its debut restaurant in Tuen Mun Town Plaza which launched last December. The new restaurant has soft-opened in Tai Po with an official launch scheduled for August. This is the largest Torikizoku branch worldwide.
The Tai Po spot will feature signature items such as Torikizoku’s popular Kizokuyaki chicken skewer dish, served in a cosy, izakaya-style setting. The Tai Po branch will offer the same menu as its Japanese counterparts, overseen by the Japanese team to ensure an authentic Osakan yakitori and izakaya experience.
The opening coincides with the brand’s 40th anniversary and Torikizoku is celebrating with a special, limited-time ‘From Osaka’ menu featuring all-new dishes. Highlights include Osakan street food favourite ‘Takoyaki with Crackers’, ‘Grilled Fluffy Grated Yam' and a variety of kushikatsu featuring shrimp, beef, chicken breast and pork belly. The official opening is scheduled for August 18 and Torikizoku founder, Tadashi Okura, will be flying in to mark the event.
Diners who check in at the dining spot or post a view on Torikizoku’s social media platforms during the promotional period will receive two tokens to use at the claw machine in the Tai Po branch to win a limited-edition Torikizoku soft toy.

Jean-Pierre

The best new restaurants in Hong Kong summer 2025 - dig into French classics at Jean-Pierre
Step into the golden age of Parisian bistro dining at Black Sheep Restaurant’s latest launch.
Jean-Pierre aims to pay homage to French culture, dining and joie de vivre and is named for founder Marc Hofmann’s father, the ultimate host and bon vivant, according to Hofmann. The space draws on Art Deco cues paired with contemporary comfort, with dark mahogany and velvet drapes oozing warmth and sophistication, while an elegant cocktail bar takes centre stage in the main dining room.
Expect classic French bistro fare, like steak tartare, onion soup and beef bourgignon, to reimagined dishes like poulet de Simone, the restaurant's own take on poulet rôti. Puddings include profiteroles, rum baba, crêpes suzette, mousse au chocolat and a creamy tarte de Saint-Tropez.
Jean-Pierre takes the space perennially-popular western restaurant Oolaa used to occupy on Bridges Street; big boots to fill, but Jean-Pierre appears to be taking it all in its stride.
