The Hong Kong Suite - superb harbour views dominate the space
As part of its multi-year renovation, Hong Kong’s luxury Island Shangri-La hotel has revealed the Hong Kong Suite. This sumptuous 50th floor space offers sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and Central from what is surely one of the city’s most glamorous hotel rooms.
Covering almost one-and-a-half thousand square feet, the light-filled space is dominated by the superb city views, which stretch from harbour to Peak as you move around the space. The other major focal point to the living room is a huge mural that stretches the full length of the right-side wall, depicting the city’s history as a fishing village two centuries ago. The specially commissioned mural has been designed according to feng shui principles and incorporates soaring mountains backdropping a rocky harbour, intricately dotted with tiny sampans.
On my visit, a sparkling Christmas tree had been set-up beside the window and alongside a circular dining table delicately laid out for tea with china tea cups and teapot and eight glass dishes of different tea varieties.

Leading off from the living room is a compact pantry with coffee maker, oven, sink and a fridge freezer filled with goodies customised according to guest preferences - in other words, enough facilities for your dedicated butler to service your every whim.
The bar area is located within the living room, with bottles of signature Shangri-La heritage gin and cut glass decanters of vodka, rum and whisky.
The harbour views continue through to the light and airy bedroom. The stunning pale green mural above the bedhead is also specially commissioned for the suite and features textural metallic flowers and plants which moves the feel from the watery landscape of the living room onto land and the lush greenery of Hong Kong’s Peak and Botanical Gardens.
A dressing room links the bedroom with the bathroom with textured wallpaper depicting Chinese lucky clouds and pines, symbolising prosperity and longevity.

The Hong Kong Suite - a bathroom fit for an emperor
The generous, marble-bedecked bathroom with Peak views is fit for an emperor (or empress), with twin rain showers, double vanities and Acqua de Parma amenities (amenities that can, of course, be switched to accommodate guest preferences). The stunning circular marble bathtub is placed beneath a wall decorated with hand-cut magnolia mosaics, a flower once so precious only emperors could own them. The bath is decked out with Shangri-La Signature Bath Salt designed by the hotel’s award-winning spa, Yun Wellness as well as a built-in Bluetooth speaker and television.
The Hong Kong Suite is Island Shangri-La’s latest big reveal following the launch of the hotel’s wellness centre, Yun Wellness, and the stunning Family Floor two years ago.
“With the launch of our latest suite, we really wanted to celebrate the DNA of Island Shangri-La,” explained general manager Cliffor Weiner. “We ‘are’ Hong Kong, we sit at the beating heart of our city and so with quiet grace and a lot of forethought, we have created a product that we feel represents the best of what our city has to offer the world.”
The Hong Kong Suite is available now, prices start at HK$60,000 per night, booking details online.
