Feather & Bone
Feather & Bone restaurants are dotted throughout central Hong Kong and serve up a wide breakfast menu. All the favourites are covered, including omelettes, avocado toast, bacon and sausage baps, full and half English breakfasts and toasties, plus healthy selections like yoghurt and granola and ‘super bowls’ of fruit, seeds and yoghurt. There’s a yummy pancake option with chantilly cream, maple syrup, berries and nuts and (perhaps most importantly) the coffee is top notch. Head to the Mid Levels location if you fancy dining alfresco.Â

Little Cove Espresso
Little Cove Espresso became the go-to coffee and breakfast spot in Sai Kung when it opened in the New Territories’ town several years ago. It has since expanded to include Kennedy Town, Quarry Bay, Pacific Place, Taikoo and One Island East. This cafe really nails avocado toast and eggs and the coffee is also worth the trip. A wide selection of breakfast options run from eggs on sourdough, smoked salmon on rye and egg and bacon ciabattas to shakshuka, French toast, pulled pork eggs bennie and breakfast and smoothie bowls. A kids’ menu includes scrambled eggs and cheese toasties.

Oolaa
Another breakfast stalwart, Oolaa has locations in Central, Tseung Kwan O, Tung Chung, Wan Chai and Kennedy Town. Start the day right with a huge breakfast menu including Oolaa’s famous Big Breakfast, eggs shakshuka, avocado toast, smoked salmon rosti, steak and eggs and breakfast wraps and burgers. There’s also a ‘DIY’ section where you can build a customised breakfast plate from a huge list of ingredients, or put together your own eggs bennie. Healthy options run to mixed berry and granola parfait, fruit salad, tofu scramble and a ‘warm green brunch’. Kids will love the smoothies, cinnamon French toasts and pancake stacks. The coffee is strong and good quality.

Jimmy’s Kitchen
Head for brunch in town at the new-look Jimmy’s Kitchen on Pedder Street. This historic restaurant may be almost 100 years old but its new location brings it bang up to date with sleek interiors and open kitchen. Head over for a breakfast brunch and enjoy cinnamon French toast, buttermilk pancakes, continental pastries, shakshuka, eggs and Jimmy’s Big Breakfast. There’s also a Jimmy’s Eggs Benedict section with Bayonne ham, Portobello mushrooms, avocado and gravlax salmon. There’s coffee or if you need more than caffeine, try one of the Jimmy’s Weekend Recovery drinks.Â

Elephant Grounds
Elephant Grounds has locations throughout Hong Kong and really nails the coffee and comfort-breakfast vibe. Healthy options include cereals, yoghurt bowls, overnight oats and spinach omelettes. The Elephant Breakfast serves you with two eggs, avocado and toasted sourdough. There’s also a shakshuka option, Elephant Ricotta Toast, avocado toast with a delicious pea pesto, a breakfast sandwich with bacon, avocado, eggs and cheese in a burger bun and smoked salmon on toast. Sweet treats include pains au chocolat, croissants, banana bread, brownies and cookies.

The Coffee Academics
These guys make great coffee their mission and they don’t disappoint. Beans are roasted in Hong Kong and cups can be bought at the group’s kiosk locations or dine-in cafes. When it comes to breakfast, there are lighter croissant and salad options, or opt for the Academics Breakfast with sourdough, bacon, sausage, eggs, halloumi cheese, beans and mushrooms. There are also plenty of egg and toast options as well as buttermilk pancakes with various toppings and berry bowls. Cafes can be found in Wan Chai, Happy Valley, North Point, Repulse Bay, Harbour City, Festival Walk, Discovery Bay and K11 Musea.

Little Lucie’s
Happy Valley’s cheeriest neighbourhood hangout, Little Lucie’s serves a super breakfast with great coffee. The light-filled, laid-back space offers an extensive brunch menu with plenty of smoothie, juice, coffee and tea choices (the banana and peanut butter smoothie is yum). The kids breakfast menu includes favourites like baked beans on toast with a hash brown, baby cakes pancakes with maple syrup, sourdough egg soldiers and bacon and cheese toasties. For adults, there are breakfast bagels and wraps, eggs bennie, breakfast waffles and pancake stacks, avocado toast, a (huge) brunch chicken waffle with bacon and steak and eggs. Mr Wolf
Head to the spacious Mr Wolf restaurant in Central where you can dine indoors or on the outdoor terrace. The breakfast is more than worth the trip into town, with heaps of egg options, avocado toast and fresh-baked croissants and pastries. Or try a heartier bacon and egg sarnie or full English (including black pudding). Lighter plates include smoothies and breakfast bowls. Sweet-toothed kids will love the spiced French toast and ricotta pancakes topped with blueberry jam and cream. There’s also an extensive list of sides if you want to customise your plate a little. The coffee is good and strong.Â

Fineprint HK
Fineprint HK is expanding throughout Hong Kong The breakfast menu is small but perfectly formed, what they offer they really do well. The portions are generous and you won’t walk away hungry. The avo and ricotta toasts are delicious and you can also go for a ‘half-and-half’ with half avo toast and half tomato feta salad on toast. Eggs come chilled and smashed on toast and the Combo Plate includes homemade baked beans, tomato feta salad, half avo and boiled eggs. Sweeter options include raisin toast, toast with seasonal jam, almond butter toast and pastries. Coffee is Fineprint HK’s speciality with beans roasted weekly in Hong Kong. Locations include Peel Street, Three Exchange Square, a Wan Chai pop-up on Johnston Road, Second Street in Sai Ying Pun, Tai Hang and Quarry Bay.

The Diner
Famous throughout town for its burgers, The Diner also serves a great breakfast. The Wyndham Street restaurant serves a daily breakfast menu with all the classics, like eggs bennie, eggs royale, eggs el paso (with Mexican chorizo) and eggs anaheim (with spinach and tomatoes). There’s an extensive pancake menu, including blueberry, banana, fresh fruit, chicken, bacon and a Big Breakfast Stack with cheese, hash browns, bacon and egg. The Breakfast Skillets are full English-style breakfasts served in the pan; variations include The Limey, Full Aussie, All-American, Herbivore and Steak and Eggs. There are smoothies and good coffee (or sneak in a cheeky mimosa).
