A deep dive into wellness at Vietnamese hill resort Garrya Mù Cang Chai

A new wellness resort has opened amongst the rice terraces of scenic northern Vietnam.

Garrya Mù Cang Chai is the world’s largest bamboo-structured resort and aims to blend wellness, culture and ‘quiet luxury’. It’s Banyan Group’s first Garrya branded  property to open in Vietnam and is described as a “sanctuary of stillness” at 1,000m above sea level and tucked away within a National Heritage Landscape in Yen Bai province.

The resort offers 110 rooms, suites and villas with a simple design ethos; bamboo structures blend with the natural environment and feature naturally ventilated interiors, private wellness spaces and valley-facing terraces.

“From the architecture to the guest journey, every detail is rooted in the land and its heritage, making the resort more than a luxury retreat,” said general manager, Thinh Phan. “This is a cultural destination where guests can slow down, listen inward and reconnect with what truly matters.”

Resort accommodation embraces a natural build to blend with the surrounding environment

Wellness journeys at Garrya Mù Cang Chai are inspired by the rhythms of the surrounding environment and are designed to realign body, mind and spirit. Days begin with breathwork and grounding rituals in the gardens, followed by treatments at the resort spa’s Hydrotherapy Wellbeing Area, featuring thermal pools, cold plunges and circulation-stimulating showers. Aqua yoga, spinal stretching, compassion meditation and natural detox classes are also available.

Guests are invited to engage with the local community through cultural encounters that include brocade weaving workshops, herbal craft demonstrations, village-led treks and storytelling with neighbouring H’Mong communities.

Dining is designed to complement the wellness experience; enjoy locally sourced ingredients at all-day dining spot, Refresh, and fire-based dishes at Charcoal Grill.

Garrya Mù Cang Chai is a six-hour drive from the international airport in Hanoi.
