Edible Art Fair debuts in Hong Kong - the immersive event is open to all ages
In a world first, an edible art festival is coming to Hong Kong.
The brainchild of Central Yards Edible Art Fair founder and managing director, Abby Cadman, the event is part of the city’s annual 'art month’ activities and invites visitors to tuck into art-inspired bite-sized snacks as they move around ten immersive art galleries. Each gallery introduces an art movement, such as Surrealism, Modernism, Expressionism and so forth, as well as serving up a tasty treat.
The event is collaborating with local Hong Kong artists Angela Yuen and ‘Frog King’ (Kwok Mang-ho). Yuen will be representing the Hong Kong Contemporary art movement with a ‘Magic Makers’ installation exploring Hong Kong neighbourhoods. The exhibition is represented gastronomically by a playful chocolate duck with a fluffy marshmallow filling.
Representing the New Ink Movement, Hong Kong conceptual artist Frog King will be presenting the ‘Frogtopia’ gallery and celebrating art as a living event. Visitors can engage by enjoying the artist’s Froggy Biscuits.
More yummy treats include jelly dogs, fruit ribbons, bananas, panna cotta ‘caviar’, optical illusion egg tarts and surrealist ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ chocolate bonbons. All bites are freshly made each day and created especially for the event.
At a tasty media reveal last week, Cadman said she hoped the inaugural event would be “immersive and accessible, fun and playful - but also sophisticated and reminiscent of an art gallery experience.”
Levina Li-Cadman of Art-Partners, who are curating the Central Yards Edible Art Fair, admitted she had never seen anything like it before. “It’s a global first,” she said.
The Central Yards Edible Art Fair is open daily, 10am to 9pm, March 26 to April 5, Central Harbourfront, with timed entry slots every 30 minutes. Tickets cost from $320 per adult and from $150 per child (three to 12 years; under twos enter for free); the ticket price includes event entry and ten edible treats, edibleartfair.com
