Singapore celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for Las Vegas Sands, a new, multi-billion dollar hotel which will form part of the Marina Bay Sands development.

The project will see the construction of a 570-suite luxury hotel capped with a signature rooftop, dining experiences, retail boutiques and spa and wellness facilities. The development will also include a 15,000-seat entertainment arena set against the backdrop of Marina Bay which will be designed for large-scale live events with top-of-the-range acoustics, good sightlines and production flexibility.

“Marina Bay Sands is the world’s most successful integrated resort in history and the gold standard in the industry,” said Robert Goldstein, chairman of Las Vegas Sands, at the groundbreaking event. “We have every intention of delivering a product that will be the envy of the hospitality industry and ushers in a new era of luxury tourism in Singapore.”

Like Marina Bay Sands, the new property is being designed by Safdie Architects. The completed 55-storey building will be rotated at a 45-degree angle to frame panoramic views of both Marina Bay and the Singapore Strait. Taking its design cues from Singapore’s status as a garden city, the development will incorporate biophilic designs with a “significant proportion” of green amenities.

The highlight of the design however is the hotel tower that will feature a ‘skyloop’, a 76,000 sq ft haven combining elevated public and private spaces. The lower skyloop will include an observatory, restaurants and rooftop gardens. Above this level, hotel guests can enjoy private cabanas set around infinity-edge pools. There will also be a cantilevered wellness terrace designed for yoga, arts and other events.

The development will be integrated with the existing Marina Bay precinct with direct access to Singapore’s MRT transport system.

Different environmental solutions are currently being explored for the build, including a self-shading façade system using high-performance glazing and internal blinds to lower direct solar heat transfer and thereby reduce energy consumption. Outdoor dining areas will be fitted with canopies and native Southeast Asian trees will be planted where possible.

“Over the years, Marina Bay Sands has been integral in strengthening Singapore’s position as a major tourism powerhouse,” said Las Vegas Sands’ president Patrick Dumont. “By the time our new ultra-luxury development is complete, Las Vegas Sands will have invested more than US$15 billion since we started operations in Singapore in 2010. This speaks volumes of our confidence in the region and the potential we continue to see in Singapore.”

Sands is one of the world's leading developers and operators of integrated resorts. Its portfolio includes Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, The Venetian Macao, The Londoner Macao, The Parisian Macao, The Plaza Macao and Four Seasons Hotel Macao.

Singapore has welcomed several high-profile launches this year, including Raffles’ first all-villa resort on Sentosa island and the Rainforest Wild Asia wildlife adventure park.

Las Vegas Sands is expected to open in early 2031.
