Kellett School wins environmental award - students have been working towards the award since 2022
Kellett School has become the first school in Hong Kong to receive the Eco-Schools Green Flag.
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) awarded the international school with the flag following a three-year implementation of the Eco-School programme and a rigorous assessment by FEE.
Students have been working since early 2022 to carry out a seven-step action plan at the school, including environmental impact audits and implementing new initiatives in order to raise awareness and address the environmental footprint of the school. The award will be reassessed annually by FEE.
“It’s amazing to finally see the culmination of three years of work,” said year 13 student and head prefect for Sustainability, Lorelei Goach. “Behind this award are tireless meetings and deadlines, the hard work and dedication of students and colossal efforts of Mr Kerr. The committee is so proud of the work we have done.”
This coming February, Kellett will host its second Student Led Environmental Conference, bringing together students from around Hong Kong to network and collaborate with a view to creating a more sustainable society.
As Kellett approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, it has made environmental stewardship a cornerstone of its ten year strategic vision.
“The Green Flag award reflects the collective effort of our entire school - students, staff and families,” said Whole School Sustainability lead Brian Kerr. “We are especially proud of our Senior School Eco Committee who have shown that young people can truly lead the way in building a more sustainable future and have inspired our whole school community to follow.”
